I've practiced editing my words (read: whittled away) until there's little left to sharpen.
This happened:
Customer: I'm wondering if you'll take less for this.
Me: No, that's a great, fair price.
Customer: I know it is, but I want to get it for a kid whose mom died.
Me:
People everywhere are angry.
I'm finding it easier and easier to understand why.

I told this story to someone the other day who responded, "[poor kid] Right, so you just gave it to her, right."
Wrong.
Here's the point I failed to make: the lady cared enough about the kid to spend $10, but not $15. Cared about the kid, but not more than about getting a really good deal. Not so much that she wouldn't use guilt to barter.
Who really cares about anybody anymore?
Do I sound angry?
